Everyone enjoys a good story-especially the ones where good triumphs over evil. Talent lies in being able to tell such a story tell it well. Even more difficult is being able to do so in a film. Few people exist who have been able to capture the essence of a story quite as well as Peter Jackson. While some people may not recognize that name, nearly everyone would recognize his films. This is the man who brought the world the epic fantasy trilogy known as The Lord of the Rings.

Sir Peter Robert Jackson was born on Halloween night, October 31, 1961, in the small coastal town of Pukerua Bay, North Island, New Zealand. The two became an inseparable writing pair, collaborating on nearly every subsequent film. Their first film together was the lewd puppet comedy Meet the Feebles (1990), which was one of four films the couple put out with the support of producer Jim Booth. Braindead (1993)-his first professional live action film-and Heavenly Creatures (1994)-starring then-unknown Kate Winslet and earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Screenplay-were among these other films. Not long after came Forgotten Silver in 1995 and his first box-office hit starring Michael J. Fox, The Frighteners in 1996.

Around that time, Jackson began looking for an incredibly ambitious project that would push him to his limits and showcase his skill. It was then that he recalled reading J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings trilogy when he was eighteen years old. Remembering thinking then "I can't wait till the movie comes out," after twenty years he had gotten impatient. After several years of attempting to find a studio to take on the project, Jackson finally made an agreement with New Line Cinemas. This project would become one like none before
