Phillip Hoose wrote the book Claudette Colvin. The purpose of writing this book was to spread awareness of the past and the differences between then and now. Phillip Hoose chose Claudette Colvin because she was one of the first teens to stand up for African American rights.

Phillip Hoose gives many examples of how people had different reactions to what Claudette did. When word got out that Claudette got arrested for refusing to move seats, some people had negative reactions and some had positive reactions.
