Phillis Wheatly Phillis Wheatly was born May 8th, 1753 in Boston, Massachusetts. Then sold as a slave to the Wheatly family in 1761. Phillis Wheatley was only the 3rd colonial U.S. woman to have her work published in the 1780s. Phillis Wheatly was also talented at other things. She studied Astronomy,Geography,and she was a talented poet.Phillis Wheatly had a husband and three children. Unfortunately, her husband passed away three years before her death. And her children passed away right when they were born. Before she passed away she had a few accomplishments.The first accomplishment was a book award for the best book in town.
