I am a complex gumbo of so many things, still I cannot afford to leave my leadership philosophy unshaped and undefined. Disjointed, unbiased viewpoints, steeped in tradition, consistency, family, authenticity, empathy, simplicity, fairness, strengths, values and goals; these words seem like mere words of description. However, after a deep self-analysis I find there are three words that combine to form a triplex and make up my core’s center – faith, Family, and fairness. This triple “F” view serves as the groundwork for my leadership philosophy. I have accepted the job of being a noncommissioned officer. Both civilian and militarily, I want to do a good job. What I require of myself is to start each day with an open mind and be ready to mentor, train, coach and retrain. A Christian perfect pattern is already set as an ever-repeating pattern for me to follow. The span of influence that I have for myself, my children, my Soldiers and any other person I encounter; serves as opportunities I cannot shrug off as misfires that I sit on. I make mistakes, I need to understand that and I need others to understand that. Without mistakes, growth is impossible.
