Rio Bravo Greeley Union School District is a unique district. It has an elementary school and a junior high school. Both school sites are connected, but separated by the track field and a tall wire fence. It is located on Enos Lane close to highway 58. The school is surrounded by almond fields and the closest neighboring communities are within two miles. The elementary site serves students from Pre-Kinder to fourth grade (physical education for the fourth graders is instructed by the junior high physical education instructor). The junior high site serves students from fifth grade to eight grades. Rio Brave Greeley has two physical educators, Mrs. Edgmon and Mr. Shelton. The school has a history of having a good sports program. I interview Mr. Shelton who has been a teacher at Rio Bravo Greeley for almost eleven years.
I have had the privilege of knowing Mr. Shelton since he came to work at Rio Bravo Greeley School. He is a great asset to our physical education program because he is a man with lots of energy and dedicated to his career. He decided to become a PE teacher because he always enjoyed sports, and staying active outside doors. Shelton went to Northridge University and his major was in Kinesiology with a focus on physical education. He works with the male students from fourth grade to eight grades. The students have a physical education period every school day which amounts to about five hours a week per grade level. . I have seen Mr. Shelton doing PE with his students countless of times. Some things that positively reflect him are that he stays in shape, engages, and participates with his students. The main goal for PE at RBG is for students to enjoy being physically active.
