Career Exploration: Physician Assistant Imagine a society in which each patient's journey is accompanied by knowledgeable practitioners and kind hearts, and where every medical diagnosis carries the hope of a cure. I saw this reality firsthand in my high school years when I undertook a required shadowing program with doctors. Even though I saw a lot of doctors in clinical settings, I didn't fully understand my enthusiasm for medicine until I saw a seasoned physician assistant do a healing procedure. I was in the operating room on a Tuesday morning, watching as a group of doctors replaced an old patient's whole knee. In addition, physician assistants have the same power as doctors to diagnose and treat patients while working under the guidance and supervision of licensed physicians. This development trend indicates that there is a growing need for physician assistants' experience in the healthcare sector, with an estimated 12,000 positions becoming available each year. Physician assistants are desperately needed to fill critical positions, especially in rural locations where access to healthcare may be restricted. Physician assistants are essential components of healthcare teams as the population becomes older and primary care services become more and more important. Physician assistants are positioned to broaden their practice since they can do many of the same tasks as doctors, and they will increasingly be involved in providing complete healthcare services to a variety of patient populations.
