The whole purpose of the break with the Catholic Church was for Henry to marry Anne Boleyn and, more specifically, receive the much sought after male heir. However, the only product of he and Anne’s marriage was a daughter – Princess Elizabeth. Anne’s inadequate breeding enraged Henry to press charges of treason, which included adultery and incest; leading to her 1536 execution (Royal Household, n.d., “Henry VIII”). However, Henry did not grieve for long; in 1537, he married Jane Seymour who would provide him with the much-anticipated heir of England – Edward, Prince of Wales. However, Jane Seymour would never see her son reach the throne as she died twelve days after giving birth in 1537 (Royal Household, n.d., “Henry VIII”).
Thomas Cromwell had proved himself a promising and efficient adviser to Henry on his divorce from Catherine and the beginning of the Reformation.
