In India, one of the beliefs Pi developed was Animals are territorial. Animals had a very big impact in Pi’s life, Piscine went from looking at them from outside glass of the Pondicherry Zoo, to unfortunately staring at them through their cold, dead eyes in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Before the boat crash, Piscine learned all about animals from the family zoo. How they’re just like us. How animals go to somewhere their use to get their essentials for survival, is the same way how our mothers go to the grocery store to get food so we do not go hungry. How animals prefer to have their own familiar territory is the same way, after school, and work, we go to our comfortable home. Like Pi says, “Animals are territorial. During his time as a child, Pi admired all of what the three religions he practiced had to offer. He is drawn to Hinduism because of philosophical design of it all. He also is drawn to Christianity because of the story of Jesus Christ, the way he preached to people, and the way love is spoken throughout the religion. Pi was also drawn to all of the religions together because he just loves God in general and he is so fascinated by him and wants to learn more about him. Piscine practices all of these religions because he wants see God from different perspectives. For example, Piscine and his family are out and run into the three priests. They find out that Pi practices all three of their religions and they bombard them with defense for their religion so Pi should practice it instead of the other two. When his parents try to defend Pi, the priests keep tearing down the other religions and force Pi to make a decision and Pi says, “Bapu Gandhi says, ‘All religions are true.’, I just want to love God. I blurted.” (Martel 69). Even as a religious person, Piscine’s statement about God is very true because all religions are centered around one thing serving God even if you are Muslim, Christian, or Hindu. We all love God even if he has a different name or is separated among different people. All religions are based on loving each other and it doesn’t matter how or who we worship to do …show more content…
What I mean by begging or calling for help from God is, when Pi is in some form of trouble or is in need, like for example, like when Pi first is shipwrecked and is floating on the Pacific Ocean. He is flustered, he is in shock, he barely recalls what just happened, and he his parents are perceived dead. So when in need of help, he calls upon the Gods (Allah, Yahweh, Vishnu), because that is his only hope at this point in time. Like Pi says here, “Vishnu preserve me, Allah protect me, Christ save me. I can’t bear it. (Martel 98). Like Pi was hopefully taught to believe in the concept of religion, that your God, (whoever it may be) is your protector, no matter what he will always come through for you whether you ask for it or not. And that is what Piscine is calling for his leaders to protect him from may come. Furthermore on the topic, another time when Pi called for his Gods was during the sequence between Richard Parker and the hyena. Pi, through this altercation, was constructing his own boat or raft to get away from the dangers that appear on the boat. And when he was constructing it, Richard and the hyena we’re already attacking each other. That’s when Pi called upon his Gods by saying, “God, give me the time.” (Martel 150.) I believe this belief is important is because Piscine’s whole entire life is built on the
