Emily in a certain way is a complex character, and in some ocassions it becomes a tad contradictory. This can mislead some readers to evoke pity for her when she is not a character that should evoke pity. At first glance Emily is a tragic Character that evokes pity mainly because she hasn't had an easy life. She was a black woman in the 1800's, an era well known for its racism and sexism, she didn't have it easy. That without counting her father's death. But what is somewhat admirable from Emily is that she's always been with her head up, no matter what. The town feels pity of her due to she reached the age of 30 and she was still single. In summary, the town always felt pity of her, no matter what she did or didn't do, they always felt pity
