Emily in a certain way is a complex character, and in some ocassions it becomes a tad contradictory. This can mislead some readers to evoke pity for her when she is not a character that should evoke pity. At first glance Emily is a tragic Character that evokes pity mainly because she hasn't had an easy life. She was a black woman in the 1800's, an era well known for its racism and sexism, she didn't have it easy. That without counting her father's death.
