There has been a long-standing discussion about the topic of segregation years after the abolishment of slavery. Many argued that white and black people were often near one another with no issues. Despite this previous way of life and work, Southern states were erecting laws that would separate white people from black people in almost any way thinkable. In 1878, there came a major ruling by the Supreme Court which acted as a predecessor of how the judicial branch reacted to many other cases of legal segregation. In 1896, the case of Plessy v.
