Georgia air was blowing in from the current. The crisp smell of the food in the oven gave a great, warm feeling. I always wished that I could have food like that, but slaves don’t get it. I was standing in the kitchen, sweeping the concrete floor, when I heard the chime of the plantation bell. The great, big sound of the bell swept through the room, and rang through my ears. The bell gave me a bit of a startle, but I ran really quick to where all the slaves had circled. By the time I got there, I saw Frank’s friend on the floor. She laughed at the moment, but realized I was serious. We both finished our work, and ran out to where we thought Frank would be, but he wasn’t there. We looked at each other, and then ran for the fields. We didn’t even think that he would have been there, but he was. She asked him and he said yes, which I never thought he would. We told him the plan, and he said it would work. We had planned to go at midnight. We would all meet up at the lake, and walk the Underground Railroad from there. We would meet up with my younger sister. Fanny was twelve years old. She didn’t have much of a choice, because she couldn’t stay here much longer, without getting shipped away. And so we went through with the plan. We met each other at the lake. It was about midnight when we left and met up with the other group, who knew the Underground Railroad, in the back of their hand. They took us the 20 miles it took to get to freedom. It took a little while to adjust to the North, but eventually we did. We all lived together in a little cottage, on a farm. We worked 7 days a week, and did everything for ourselves. It was a great journey, but we did it! We made it through slavery, and we made it
