Polynesian Myths vs Moana When watching a movie, the watcher isn’t usually thinking of the meaning behind the movie. The movie could be telling a story told from a book, a myth from the culture, or just for entertainment. With that being said, watching a movie is learning a story and knowing the meaning behind the story. For example, if you look at the movie Moana and analyze the characters features and characteristics, you will realize that they are Polynesian. It is said that her father became angered by her temper and that she seduced her sister’s husband (Gryphon). Her father’s concern caused him to exile Pele from their home in Tahiti. Pele’s brother gave her a canoe that she used to sail herself and her brothers to a new location. This journey led them to Hawaii. Pele’s sister was still not happy and found her siblings. She fought Pele and continually attempted to destroy her. In their last encounter, Pele was left for dead. Pele was torn apart and could not go on.
