Pele is the goddess of fire, lightning, dance, wind, volcanoes, and violence (Gryphon). While all of those concepts are her specialties, she is mostly known for violence in regards to her temper. Her stories almost always include an event of her becoming extremely angry and finding a way to release said anger. The most believed tale is that Pele was exiled. It is said that her father became angered by her temper and that she seduced her sister’s husband (Gryphon). Her father’s concern caused him to exile Pele from their home in Tahiti. Pele’s brother gave her a canoe that she used to sail herself and her brothers to a new location.
