The Outsiders and Legend, are the two most similar books. For anyone who hasn’t read these breathtaking books, The Outsiders by S.E. Hilton is about Ponyboy Curtis, who causes trouble with his fellow gang members. On the other hand, Legend by Marie Lu stars June Iparis, a prodigy who meets the most wanted criminal. However, the two main characters, June and Ponyboy, are very similar because they overcome their selfish behavior and are intelligent yet lack common sense. However, Ponyboy is much more emotional than June. One similarity is that both characters overcome their selfishness. However, later June changes, realizes that helping Day is the right thing to do, and becomes less self-centered. In The Outsiders, Ponyboy realizes, “I saw that I had expected Darry to do all the understanding without even trying to understand him. And he had given up a lot for Soda and me” (Hilton 150). Ponyboy has never considered someone's point of view. He had never tried to understand Darry's frustration and sacrifice. Darry had given up an opportunity to go to college to care for Ponyboy and Sodapop. Darry will be stuck in the same neighborhood, unable to get an enjoyable, higher-paying job. This led to them fighting over grades and sports, which upset Sodapop. Ponyboy had also been selfish in not considering Sodapop’s feelings and hurting them. However, the issue was resolved. The brothers talk to each other and agree to try not to fight. That is how both characters overcome their selfish behavior. Second, both characters are intelligent, yet lack common sense.
