In the book Greg Mortenson’s Three Cups of Tea, the author teaches that sacrifices-- both great and small-- are necessary to bring positive change. For instance, when Greg fails to climb K2, a mountain in Pakistan, he stumbled down into the small village of Korphe. Nurturing and helpful, Haji Ali assisted Greg back to full health. In order to repay the members of Korphe, Greg promised to build them a school. Later in the story, Haji Mehdi, the chief of a neighboring village called Askole, parades into Korphe demanding twelve rams from Haji Ali as a way of “payment” because of the school being constructed in his village.
