Positive reinforcement is necessary with behavior management. One of the best strategies would be social reinforcing the students. The reason this strategy is one of the best is because it goes on the level of the emotions the student is displaying. Being told good job helps motivate individuals to continue working hard and to become greater at the ability/skill they are performing.

Along with positive reinforcement, it is always good to know how to resolve conflicts between students. The method I prefer to resolve conflicts would be peer mediation. Where students resolve their own disputes and conflicts, and a neutral peer acts as a moderator. A good example would be rock, paper, and scissors; a fun little game that can easily settle a dispute

The token reinforcer motivates students to try and get more points or stickers, etc. but a student falling behind who might have none while the others have tons, might lose motivation in the class and its activities. Therefore positive reinforcers for good behavior should be used to create an optimistic atmosphere and environment for all children.

Apart from positive reinforcers, negative reinforcers may need to be used to help children become more dedicated to class activities. The negative reinforcement tactic I would use is the time-out method. It’s simple and allows the student to ponder about what they did wrong, hopefully to not cause problems again. If time-out didn’t work, then suggesting that they might have to run for their consequences may be the next negative reinforcement.

Following negative reinforcements, I would not use behavior contracts or behavior games. Kids love to rebel, and contracts will not hold them to any better standard then before. Kids love to have attention and praise, therefore once they get positive feedback for doing something right, they will truly be following the rules in the
