My academic work and goals will be influenced by the walk I shared with
Postpartum Depression for the last year and a half. The struggle with anxiety, the ability to accomplish everyday tasks, and enjoying my family was so intense that I will do everything in my power to help other mothers overcome their maternal mental illnesses with finesse.
In the last year and a half I was able to find a new outlook on life and a new founded desire to take control of my education. I faced many detours and potholes on my road to recovery such as ridicule for not trying hard enough to be a better mother, I faced a divorce, and even writing this reflection paper brought me great anxiety. 1 in 7 woman world wide suffer from some form of Maternal Mental
Illness and 1 in 5 woman suffer from the same in the United States. Suicide is the second leading cause of death to new mothers and these number in my opinion are alarming. By gaining my Bachelors of Science in Psychology I hope to help not only new mothers but also their families and the general population gain knowledge about

Maternal Mental Illness and the dangers associated with the illnesses going untreated and undiagnosed. There is a huge lack of knowledge and Clinicians here in America and I seek to change this.
I have always been a self learner so the best route for me was to gain my degree online. During my recovery I was forced to rely on resources such as self help books, online forums, and support groups to educate myself about my illness due to lack of funds.
