Power and Authority
Power and authority exists everywhere, from what socks you put on in the morning to how much you get paid. Some of it you have control over, and some you don't, although, no matter how much you try, there always seems to be someone with more authority than you. Cole Matthews has quite a bit of trouble realizing this and as a result, his father uses physical violence to punish him, which affects his action in the outside world, therefore, he hides his feelings deep inside and once out of the house finds relief in hurting others. He does this one too many times so the community banishes him to a remote island for a year. Everything he does on this island brings him one step closer to realizing that he doesn't have it as bad as he thinks.

I came home from school today to find my father waiting just inside the door, he immediately ran up to me and shoved a letter into my face. I couldn't even read what it said before he knocked me to my knees. I heard a deafening crack and screamed out in pain, but still he took me by the arms and dragged me to the other room. This happens every time, whenever I get a bad mark or make a simple mistake, this is what I get. Out of the millions of times I've screamed out in agony or begged him to stop, never once has he. He has power over me, I know that, and I don't like it. I do however have power over the kids at school, they're all afraid of me, speaking of which, that Peter kid ratted me out about the Hardware Store, I'm thinking I ought to pay him a visit, that should take me mind off of this...

Well, I'm at a Detention Centre now because of smashing Peter's face into the sidewalk as payback for what he did to me. This guy, I think he was a Probation Officer or something, came to visit me and told me that there was this “opportunity” I could apply for. I think he called it “Circle Justice.” I don't know, all I care about is that if I get into it, I don't have to go to jail! That would be awesome! I'm just going to pretend that I'm really sorry about what I did the Peter, that way I can skip out on jail. He said I would have to go to a meeting with “anybody in the community who is interested in helping me.” Whatever, I don't even care anymore, I'll do whatever it takes to avoid jail again.

So I went to that meeting thing
