Power Of Temptation In Homer's The Odyssey

As I read the Odyssey, one thematic element that stood out to me was the powers of temptation. Odyssey and his other men create some of their own obstacles, due to being too weak to resist mortal temptations. For example, the rapping of the Trojan priestess Cassandra, caused a great amount of unnecessary hardships for the Achaeans' on their homecoming, due to this leading to the wrath of Athena being upon their convoy. The reasoning for these hardships that followed Ajax rapping the priestess, is from him making an impulse decision without thinking of the consequences that were going to follow.
