Racism is something that’s been about and will never fully disappear. Race and sexuality played huge roles in this movie and the main characters are Danny Vinyard, Derek Vinyard, and Derek’s friends Cameron and Seth that are seen throughout the movie. Danny and Derek were brought up in an environment of racism by their father Dennis Vinyard, a fireman who is a white supremacist that was gunned down by a African American drug dealer for putting a fire out in a bad neighborhood. Derek who was outraged by his father’s death follows his father’s footsteps by becoming a white supremacist, is incarcerated for killing three African American guys that tried to steal his truck that was given to him by his father. While in jail many events occur, which causes Derek to change his attitude and the person he used to be, a white supremacist. But When Derek returns back home to his family he realizes that his brother Danny is now following in his footsteps, hanging out with same people he used to hang out with and joining white supremacist groups. Sweeney Danny’s old teacher. Derek breaks down and starts crying in front of Dr. Sweeney telling him he longer wants to be a white supremacist, also that he wanted to take everything back that he’s done in the past and do everything he can to help his brother Danny. So becoming friends with Lamont changed his thoughts about African American people and his old ways of being a white supremacist. When Derek is released from prison he comes out a changed person and not wanting anything to do with his past life, but returns home to find out Danny is now a white supremacist. While writing his paper on Derek Danny notices that his brother changed and is no longer doing the things he used to
