President Lyndon B Jonson declared a war on poverty, he wanted to redesigned opportunity and redefine American lives. Head start was founded because of Lyndon B Jonson’s war on poverty but also because nearly half of the nations poor were children. The program was designed to give disadvantaged children a head start. It was made to incorporate education, health, social services and parent involvement. Since the summer of 1965 Head Start became a full year program, parent and child services offer Head Start services for children birth to 3, head start moved from the Office of Economic Development to the Office of Child Development, Department of Health, Education and Welfare, and American Indian and Alaska Native programs launch in 14 sates.
