One hundred and fifty years ago the president of the United States was having what was supposed to have been a relaxing evening enjoying the production of the play, “Our American Cousin,” at the Ford Theater in Washington D.C., however, it turned into a presidential slaying of our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln.
On April 14, 1865, President Abraham Lincoln was shot by a point blank gunshot to the head by John Wilkes Booth and he died nine hours later on the following morning. In the hours of travel leading up to the presidential slaying, the President was with his family, his wife Mary Todd, and his two sons, 12 year old son Tad, and 21 year old Robert.

According to reports, Lincoln’s wife told those who asked about his last words that day, that her husband and she had talked about their marriage prior to the presidential slaying. The two reportedly were riding in a carriage that afternoon and Lincoln told her that they both needed to try to be happier in the future after they had suffered through things like the war and the death of their son, Willie.
