Arizona, as a state, does not do enough to prevent texting and driving, cops have bigger issues to deal with. Pulling someone over for phone usage is most likely the least of their worries, even though most accidents are caused by distracted driving. Although there are state laws and regulations about texting and driving, many people are not held accountable for these actions. Distracted driving causes 1.6 million deadly crashes a year, close to 10,000 in Arizona alone. Anything that can take your attention off the road is considered distracted driving, although phones are the main distraction, distracted driving could also be eating, feeling any extreme emotion or drowsiness, and even passengers. Statistics show that about 9,200 accidents a year are caused by distracted driving, and about 3,000 people a year lose their lives to distracted driving accidents. Distracted driving is a very selfish act because it affects not just you, but especially others on the road as well. Although there are ways to fight the urge to stop distracted driving, many would much rather take the risk because they haven't faced a consequence. I think Arizona cops need to enforce cell phone rules more strictly in Arizona. The crash rates for distracted driving are very high and if police enforced handsfree rules more strictly. people are less likely to use their phones because they don't want to face the
