An important character in the film Pride and Prejudice directed by Joe wright and based on the Jane Austen novel of the same name, is Fitzwilliam Darcy. Darcy is an important character because he shows the importance of Prejudice and Loyalty.
Darcy is a Male of the upper class of the rich people and try’s to help others that are connected to Elizabeth to try to get her to notice him. The movie doesn’t explain how old Darcy is but I guess that he is in his mid-20s to 30s. At the start of the film I think we are supposed recognise him as an important character but we don’t really know what’s going on with him until he proposes for the first time to Elizabeth.
Darcy is an important character because he shows the characteristic of prejudice. Prejudice is when you pre-judge someone and make assumptions about a person without actually knowing them. We see this when Darcy separates Elizabeth’s shy sister Jane and Mr Bingley because he thinks that Jane isn’t contributing to their relationship enough but she actually loves Mr Bingley but is too shy to admit it. Mr Darcy also pre-judges Elizabeth at the first ball saying she is “tolerable I suppose but not enough to tempt me.” This is important because from this we learn that Darcy is able to estimate what another person would be like but sometimes he would be wrong.
