In my opinion handling the privacy policy of a company the likes of Microsoft, Yahoo, AOL, and Facebook is extremely difficult. With that being said the privacy policy of a conglomerate organization in which they are all combined is mere impossible. However, if was hired by this company to help with their privacy policy I would recommend some important practices that many of these companies either don’t or do not do well enough.
One practice is better communication with users. What these companies do not realize is that their privacy policy is often too complicated for users to read or even understand. This is where companies run into problems with their users. For example we can take a look at Facebook and their privacy policy in which at least at some point any and all pictures uploaded by users were available to Facebook and companies affiliated with Facebook to use for advertising. Many users were not aware of this and when this information was revealed everybody was angered by this practice. Privacy policies are long and extremely complicated but there is no reason why the important points can’t be communicated better with users. This is why I believe better communication leads to happier users, less trouble for the company, and strengthens the success of the company.
Another problem a lot of companies run into is the problem of greed. They want as much money as they can get. Advertisements alone are not enough. They will allow user information to
