His story starts on May 1940 at his camp where he was stationed. It was a simple camp with housing tents on one side and a training course on the other. He did the drills like everyone else and he respected the chain of command like everyone else. His only trouble was when his Sargent was speaking to him. Sargent Maxwell always hated Jeremy. “What do you think you’re doing Private?!”, he would bark and Jeremy would answer with, “Doing the drills as best I can like the others, sir.” Sargent Maxwell was the most vicious and cruelest of all the sergeants in the region. He would get furious at the smallest mistakes; especially when Private Jeremy made the mistakes. One day the Sargent made an example of his wrath by shooting an unsuppressed colt near Jeremy’s left ear, making him mildly deaf. That was the day that First Lieutenant Aiko kept Jeremy out of the Sargent's way. Unlike Maxwell, Aiko cared for the troops and was less strict.
