In “Private Language, Public Language” Rodriguez discusses the difficulties he faced while growing up. Rodriguez also talks about how hard it was for him to communicate in English. He explained saying that he would feel more at home while speaking in Spanish rather than English. While speaking in English he felt more aware of others. Richard explains how he felt when his parents spoke English. He discussed the inconveniences his parents faced not knowing English. “It was more troubling for me to hear my parents speak in public: their high-whining vowels and guttural consonants…” It made realized that when I was younger, my parents had gone through a tough time because they were not fluent in English, even though they speak properly there
