The current debate on the issue of private prisons has caused an uproar with Immigration advocates and members of Congress. The issue derives from the question of how beneficial these prisons are to the U.S., and more importantly if they're not how and why should we eliminate them. This is where Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson comes into the picture as he directs a council to decide wether to continue with the private prisons or not. It is interesting to see how the opinions of private prisons differentiate among the groups. One of the first major groups contains: DHS,GEO Group,Corrections Corp. of America,etc. The common opinion they share is private prisons being effective and safe. GEO Group states “facilities under contract with ICE are highly rated and provide high-quality cost-effective services in safe, secure, and humane residential environment pursuant to a strict contractual requirements and the federal government national standards,”. This was also verified by Corrections Corp. of America spokesman Steve Owen as he states, “We're proud of the quality and value of the services we provide and look forward to sharing that information.” These statements seem valid because of their sources and company affiliations. They're views are polar opposites when discussing the topic of private prisons. The Justice Department itself has claimed private prisons are simply unsafe for immigrants. This is where Immigration advocates argue that companies do not provide the immigrants who have been detained with proper mental and medical care. “Immigration advocates of members of Congress had rent a pressure on the DHS to end its contract with the private prison companies since the Justice Department announced August 18 it would do so.” This has made the opinion of private prisons being unsafe into a
