On November 9 1991, a woman is giving birth in a hospital in Lagos Nigeria West Africa. The mother is weak and tired from pushing the overweight baby and the doctor knows she might die. The doctor then out of worry decides to help the woman by assisting in the pushing. He pulls the arm of the child from the mother and a cracking sound is heard. When told that the child was too sick and now had a broken arm the mother and father are very devastated. The child is put in an incubator and watched over with no hope of recovery. The doctor tells the mum that what he fears the most is that the child would become mentally and physically disabled. The mother was advised to record every milestone carefully. The mother called the child’s name and was looked at. The mother is satisfied that the child can hear. She smiles at the child and the response is a smile back. The mother is pleased again because she sees her child can see and understand. Everyone was afraid that the child might become unstable so they continued to live carefully.
In 1997 the child was home having fun and playing with siblings, but slips and hits the head on the concrete ground. The child collapses and is rushed to the hospitals Emergency room. Due to the personality I have I seem to not recognize when I am being mocked. My family says I am naïve and innocent because I cannot believe others have bad intentions. It troubles them a lot and when I go out because they feel I cannot handle a scary situation. Even my younger sister of four years gets worried and treats me younger than her. I believe they are still worried about my mental health from birth and they fear something might occur again.
