Today in our world, more people are committing crimes than ever. That's why the U.S created the death penalty. The death penalty is when people who commit crimes and violate laws are killed by a government court order. However, not all states allow the death penalty. According to the article Death Penalty Pro & Cons, 18 states do not have the death penalty and 32 have (Pro & Cons for Death Penalty). A main idea for the death penalty being legal in America is people that are on the death row can also be innocent. This is not good for the United States because they are killing people who haven't done anything.The death penalty is mostly used in a wrong way too the poor, young and people of racial, ethnic, political and religious groups which can mean that individual could be easily innocent. Another reason is the U.S pays millions of dollars. States like California could save $90 million dollars. In California, taxpayers get paid $114 million a year by the death row costs. The state has killed 13 individuals since 1976 for a cost around $250 million every murder (death penalty info. center). There are better places for the money to go such as education, technology, and other uses for public funding which our country really needs in some parts of our Country. Another waste of money is when executing someone by a lethal injection. A lethal injection is a procedure of capital punishment where an individual is injected chemicals in their body to kill the person. Most dangerous injections use a supply of drugs to reduce unconsciousness and ultimately death, it cost even more money (death penalty overview).
