In the article, “School Dress Codes Are Necessary and Constitutional,” found on Gale Databases it discusses how school uniforms create a positive learning environment for students to learn in. A positive learning experience should be at the very root of every teacher, principal, and superintendent so then students want to be lifelong learners instead of seeing learning as a chore that students have to do. The same article states, “Schools with uniforms say that their students have better self-esteem because without the name brand clothing on display, the students are placed on an equal level.” School uniforms create an even ground for students to stand on by taking away the judgement of what one wears. Among those schools is a school called George Washington Academy which has put out a dress code for their students and others to read. It states, “Studies have shown that the adoption of School Uniform policies can also promote school safety, improve discipline, and enhance the learning environment.” The only thing that hasn’t been discussed so far is the improvement of discipline, but first a question. What does a school uniform look like? According to the George Washington Academy administration it should be like this: “Uniforms need to be plain, simple and conservative.” They go on and discuss that the clothing worn should be solid colors, void of logos,and other distracting embellishments. School uniforms are put into place so then students can already become more used to a work uniform or a certain requirements for work clothing.
