If you were to walk into a movie theatre today you would see a bunch of mindless zombies munching on various snacks while watching the latest superhero movie, but where’s the truth? You may be wondering what I mean by this. Well, in today’s society we are living in what people are now calling the “post-truth era”. You also may not know what post-truth is. You can look at the word by just its prefix and its base, but there is more to be dissected than that. There is more underneath the word, but how does it relate to the movies being released everyday? The producer in movies is the person who holds the entire production together. They have a long list of various boxes that need to be checked as well as daily tasks. Producers are with a movie from start to finish. They start by first picking a script, storyline, or idea. They then hire a writers to work on the script and would then approve it when finished. Producers also have to worry about the fine print details such as making sure they have all the rights they need. This is just the beginning phases of a movie. The producer would then have to hire all of the crew including the director, camera crew and so on. They would then have to help with casting as well. Producers also need to organize the budget, and set up all the finances. Not only do they do that, but they have to get shooting locations approved, and a production schedule in place. They then stay there through the entire production until it is finished. Producers will then still have a lot to do in the post production phase. As a producer you have to help with the music and sound that would go into the film. A producer would also need to set up interviews for the cast to promote the movie before it’s release date. Producers have to work with a lot people so they need to have a very specific set of skills. This includes: a good business sense, financial sense, creative vision, motivated, good negotiation skills, be a good motivator, understand how to control a budget and the process of film-making. The most needed education is to have a bachelor’s degree in cinematic arts, or something having to do with visuals. The most common way to get into the job of being a producer is to start from the ground and work your way up. For example you could just start on set as a runner and go up from there.
