The lead character in this film is Professor Fulson; brilliant coach of the Wiley College debate team by day and radical, pro-union organizer of sharecroppers by night. Fulson demonstrated moral character by having the courage to challenge the powerful academics of Harvard University to a debate, he displayed performance character as he showed his team how to use voice inflections and voice projection needed to present a debate, and he demonstrated civic character, in particular the quality of, “ethic participation” (Seider, 2012, p.165), as the debates material written by him and his team wrote were always supported with academic research.
