Twilight is important in Islam as it determines when certain universally obligatory prayers are to be recited
Morning twilight is when morning prayers are done, while evening twilight is the time for evening prayers
IBN MU’ADH
Ibn Mu’adh observed how fast sun disappeared from the sky
He figured out that the suns twilight was 19 degrees below the horizon. He calculated the height of the atmosphere was 52 miles - not so far off from what we believe today! (62 miles)

Ibn al Haytham's most important contributions were in the fields of Optics, Mathematics, and Astronomy. His most important single work is the comprehensive Kitab al-Manazir (The Book of Optics)
Using his revolutionary scientific method, Ibn al-Haytham takes leaps and bounds into the field of optics.
In his book he was the first to disprove the ancient Greek idea that light comes out of the eye, bounces off objects, and comes back to the eye. He delved further into the way the eye itself works. Using dissections and the knowledge of previous scholars, he was able to begin to explain how light enters the eye, is focused, and is projected to the back of the eye.
This theory changed the way optics were studied. It allowed for optics to be a mathematical discipline, allowing for a significant step in the genesis of modern medicine
