Really quick i would like to state my groups idea for our robot project, so here it is. We used the bevel gear for my Project 2.4 - Pull Toy Construction Project. My groups idea was to make a clapping monkey, and as the wheels would turn, it would turn the bevel gear turn, which was touching another bevel gear that was facing up. That bevel gear had an axle sticking up from it that would move the arms of the monkey in a back in forth motion making the action of clapping. That was how we were going to make our monkey clap.
The bevel gear was created by a man named William, William Gleason, he created the bevel gear in 1874, near the genesee river, New York. He had created it for his company Gleason Works. It took him a decade to make the bevel gear from when he started his company, but once he did it, it opened up countless new opportunities for transmission of motive power. A little after that time a lot of people started using the bevel gear for water mills. It is a windmill, but instead of …show more content…
A good example to explain all of these improvements is by the helicopter. Obviously as you know, the helicopter is very noisy, and part of that is because of the bevel gear, and if they never made the bevel gear less noisy, it would have been twice as loud as it is now, and it is still noisy! Now, they had to make it lighter because especially for the helicopter, it can’t be very heavy otherwise, it won’t be able to fly. And the same goes for other objects that use the bevel gear, of course possibly in other aspects. And last it had to get improved in the aspect of life span because otherwise they would have to waste money on buying more bevel gears and wasting money and they will have to waste time changing out bevel gears more often. As you can see, these improvements, made the bevel gear a much better
