Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World is mordant vision of a utopian future. In this utopian world, the people are manufactured and placed in to caste systems. They all have rules and regulations the World Controllers have put in place to ensure the world state motto, “community, identity, stability.” They are also sheltered from love, marriage, and family. In the new world, the people are hindered from developing different qualities of humanity because sexuality and promiscuity are encouraged.
In the new world, children are taught that sexuality and promiscuity are acceptable behaviors. The Director of Hatcheries and Conditioning notices two children, about seven or eight, taking part in a rudimentary sexual game and says, “That’s a charming little group” (31). Children don’t develop self-respect because they are taught at an early age that promiscuity is acceptable. They are never shown or taught Storge or Eros, which are types of love. They are raised to think that love comes in the form of sex; even then it’s not love, it’s more of a reward. Children also never get a chance to develop personal morals about sexuality because they have all been taught to think the same thing and no one questions it.

Lenina had started to develop self-respect because she stayed committed to Henry while they were in a relationship, but loses it when she let Franny talk her out of it because it is frowned upon. She also loses her critical thinking and individuality because she let Franny and society decide how her relationship with Henry should
