• Message: Difference between the rich and the poor, social justice, God’s presence within the world and judgment. He shocked people by telling them that because of their horrible foreign policy they would soon self-destruct. He treated all other races equally, and this shocked most people. Even if their religion was different he would helped all of the weak. He was furious at the behaviour that god was prepared to punish them at the time. According to Amos, God’s priority was that all weak were looked after.
• Context: At the time to Amos’ preaching another empire was about to conquer the Israel’s, and a massive genocide would occur. The false prophets assured the leaders and the people of Israel that God would step in and somehow stop the genocide. Amos simply looked at it realistically, and told them that they needed to improve their foreign policy otherwise the genocide would occur. As such, people didn’t believe him, and the genocide did occur. This was because the poor, widowed and the orphans weren’t protected and this was a failure on their part. This was also part of God’s vision.

The king was sinful, and false idols were rampant. One of the more common sins were the worshiping of idols and vanity, defined as a high opinion of oneself. As a result, Israel became vain. God didn’t like this. God had warned the nations against this. They didn’t listen. God gave the people one more chance to listen, and that chance was Jeremiah. Jeremiah was not listened to, and so the people were punished. Judah was cast out, and the residents were held at a foreign land against their own will by an atheist
