An alternative proceeding of incarceration is community corrections. These corrections include probation, served in society immediately after sentencing, and parole, served in the community after serving goof time in prison. Community corrections help lower the numbers in prisons. Prisons do not have enough room for every single person that commits a crime. Many times, Prisons make convicts more aggressive, making it more difficult for them to transition back into society without them ending up back in prison. Smaller crimes are given community services because they are not a serious threat to society. It makes more sense for misdemeanor criminals to be allowed to serve their time, while still in society, in the sight of community supervisions. …show more content…
This method of community corrections saves the prisons time, money, and resources. There is a limited budget for prisons, simply because they are prisoners. If there were an option between giving schools or prisons a sum of money, it would go to the schools for the obvious reason; Students haven’t committed harm to the society. This method helps the offender rehabilitate and regain their status as a citizen, not a criminal. Overall, it saves the states prisons more money for medical expenses and constructing.
