Zika virus was first detected in 1947 in a monkey in Uganda. Since then, it was most often found along the equator from Africa into Asia. The Zika Virus was thought to be carried by infected AEDES mosquitoes and when they infect humans, the latter gets infected with the virus. A few years ago, new cases of Zika popped up in islands in the Pacific Ocean and since then, the virus has been making quite a tour from Brazil, to the USA. Initially, the Zika virus had been regarded as relatively not dangerous in a considerable period, but that perspective changed in the last few years.
Of recent, the Zika virus made its way to the Americas with shocking results, and presently, the virus is spreading explosively in the Americas. The reason behind its speed of transmission is explained by the lack of any immunity to Zika and the fact that mosquitoes spreading the virus can be found virtually everywhere in the Americas. According to the statement made by Dr. Margaret Chan, WHO's director-general, an estimate of about 3million to 4million infection cases have been recorded in the region over a period of one year.
