This week we read chapter three from Pruitt and Kim (2004) and chapter five from Ramsbotham, Woodhouse, and Miall (2015). In chapter three of Pruitt and Kim (2004) they outlined ways of dealing with conflict (contending, problem solving, yielding, or avoiding) and discussed several reasons why individuals are more likely to use one of the above methods over another (dual concern, perceived feasibility perspective, placement of blame, or culture). In chapter five of Ramsbotham et al. (2015) they state conflict is unavoidable, but also discuss ways of decreasing or preventing violent conflict such as “equitable economic development, legitimate institutions, and a culture of tolerance” (p. 125).
