Life is a dark comedy. You live your life but we all die in the end, which I think Happy Days and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum encapsulates. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is a musical where Pseudolus, a slave, tries to win his freedom by unitying his master and a young slave girl. Happy Days is a play where the main character, Winnie is buried from the waist up in sand in the middle of the desert while she rambles on about life.
One main theme of both pieces is love and marriage. In Happy Days, Winnie is recollecting a happier time in her marriage to Willie, like their first kiss. She tries to stay optimistic about life but the sand keeps pulling her in physically and metaphorically. Similarily in A Funny
