Sleep Deprivation
PSYC 1111 Unit 2 Written Assignment
Lack of sleep can make one grumpy and foggy. It has effect on sex life, memory, health, looks, and even ability to lose weight. Research has revealed that people who consistently fail to get enough sleep are at an increased risk of chronic disease, and scientists are now beginning to understand why.
For this assignment, I have reviewed “Sleep and Disease Risk” a research paper published in 2007 by Sigurdson K et al. In the research paper, they emphasize the relationship between sleep and health. According to the authors, not getting enough sleep can have profound consequences on a daily and potentially long-term basis for your health and mental well-being.

Additional research studies show that habitually sleeping more than nine hours is also associated with poor health.
Unfortunately, few are those who sleep well on a regular basis. Part of the problem is our propensity for using artificial lighting and electronics at night, in combination with getting insufficient exposure to full, bright, and natural sunlight during the day, points Sigurdson et al.
This disconnect from the natural cycles of day and night, activity and sleep, can turn into a chronic problem where you're constantly struggling to sleep well.
Fortunately, the remedy is simple, and if you follow the recommendations at the end of this article, chances are you'll be able to reestablish a healthy sleep pattern, without which you simply cannot be optimally healthy — even if you do everything else right.
Sigurdson used the method of sleep deprivation studies which involved depriving healthy research volunteers of sleep and examining any short-term physiological changes that
