The poems are both similar and alike in many ways. In the first poem the author shows you what poems are all about and does not rhyme but rather says confusing words that don't follow the laws of physics and the second one rather talks about beating a poem to a pulp by using personification. Both authors speak directly to you and help you address the situation they are talking about. The author in the first poem states how when you read a poem you “hear with your heels, your eyes feel what they never touched before”(line 10-11 eve merriam).
