Week 3: Answer Questions About Experimental Design

1. Jackson (2012) even-numbered Chapter Exercises, pp. 308-310.

Question 2: The difference between randomized ANOVA and a repeated measures ANOVA is when you randomly analyzed the variance between the subject design and the independent variable. The difference between a repeated measures ANOVA is certain conditions must be met. Although the distribution is normally distributed the groups are correlated within-subjects or matched-subjects. The term one-way mean with respect to an ANOVA is the design uses only one independent variable.
Question 4.
The probability of a Type I error on a single comparison is about .05 alpha however; the chances of a Type I error will increases when multiple test comparisons are conducted. The formula is 1 -(1-α)c. Using the Bonferroni adjustment will set a more stringent level that will minimize any Type I errors. In the Bonferroni adjustment the alpha level is divided by the number of test comparisons

A post hoc comparison should be perform when there is a difference in the randomized ANOVA and means between the two groups. The post hoc comparison shows statistically the differences between the means Within-Subjects study groups using the Tukey’s Post Hoc Test.

Question 8.

A repeated measures ANOVA statistically is more powerful than a randomized ANOVA because the randomized ANOVA is split into two sources of variance and is subject to error or residual variance. Although the data is similar the repeater measures the individual differences across subjects has been removed resulting in the error variance being smaller. The Fobt is larger and statistically significant in the repeated ANOVA also resulting in the F-ratio in the repeated ANOVA to be larger and have more statistical power.

Question 10. Dr. Fritch I couldn’t get my data and variables to perform the test correctly in the SPSS.
