Elie Wiesel knows the importance of speaking up, “It frightens me because I wonder: do I have the right to represent the multitudes who have perished?”(Wiesel, Acceptance) he is scared that he is not worthy but continues to speak anyways. He knows that no one can fully represent the dead in the situation but also knows the importance of raising awareness for them and making sure that they are not forgotten.Some my say that they don't want to raise awareness because then others will pity them and give them sympathy that they don't always want. However, they are raising awareness for more than themselves they are raising awareness for those who have passed and can’t speak. They are telling the story for those who wish they could. They will never be able to speak for another person but they can help the others be remembered and not forgotten.
