1. What was it about this planet that you found most interesting?
I find it most interesting that this planet could be covered in a super ocean. This is fascinating by itself to think of another planet to have an ocean, but could you image a super ocean? I mean our oceans on earth are already gigantic and most powerful! The world-wide ocean could also keep the climate comfortable, feeling mild and spring-like.
2. How does it differ from Earth?
It is a Gas Giant making it very large with a radius that is 2.4 times Earth's radius and a mass of .11 times the size of Jupiter’s.
3. How far is it from Earth?
600 light years.
4. If we traveled at the speed of light, how long would it take to get there?
It would take us 620 years …show more content…
What was it about this planet that you found most interesting?
I found most interesting that live bacteria was found on Mars. This is fascinating because Mars was a planet that was believed to be inhabitable. Finding these live bacteria means that life is possible on the planet.
2. How does it differ from …show more content…
It is smaller and about half the size of Earth. Mars is dusty and dry, with deposits of water ice on the northern and southern poles. Mars has two moons while earth only has one. It is made of 95% carbon dioxide while Earth is mostly nitrogen and oxygen. The biggest difference is that Earth has life forms on it and Mars does not.
3. How far is it from Earth?
Less than 1 light year away
4. If we traveled at the speed of light, how long would it take to get there?
Because light travels at approximately 186,282 miles per second, which means it would take approximately 182 seconds or just a little over 3 minutes at its closest approach, 22 minutes at its farthest approach and 12.5 minutes on average. (1)
5. What type of technologies would we need to survive there (breathing units? Suits? Etc)? [ really think this one through]
We would need to find a way to adapt to the limited atmosphere. Composed of almost no oxygen, it would be extremely hard and we’d have to find out how to introduce oxygen into the atmosphere. This needs plant technology, which could also prove hard to achieve because lack of water. If the human race could figure out the two problems of oxygen and water, then success could be achieved. Otherwise we could have the gear one would see in sci-fi films, hazmat-like suits for breathing and constantly living inside a
