Pterois, more commonly known as ‘Lionfish’, are vibrant and elegant marine creatures characterized by their zebra-like red coloration and tentacle protrusions giving it a seaweed-like appearance. They are capable of growing up to 50cm in length, and weigh in at 1 to 1.3kg. They are equipped with dorsal, pelvic and anal venomous spines capable of inducing intense pain lasting from 12hrs to several days, paralysis or even death may occur.
