worksheets were given to the students with practice of the letters. The students worked on their activity for 30mns.
10:20 AM The classroom had different center that the students can use, they had an art, science, math manipulative, blocks, water, sand, listening, library, writing and sensory center, where each child can learn about certain things, concerning the topic of that center.
11:00 AM the teacher read the story Miss Mary Mack. She first discussed the cover of the book and asked for predictions. This technique sets a purpose for reading and encourages the students to pay attention to see if their prediction was correct. As she read, the teacher repeated rhyming words from the story and asked the students to say them also. She then asked what ending sound made the words rhyme. I was very impressed that almost every student was able to identify the final sound that made the words rhyme.
11:20 AM the teachers took the whole class out in the school playground to play. It was a nice day outside. The students stayed out for about 30 minutes. They returned to the classroom. At 11:50 AM everyone washed their hands, and seat quietly waiting for their teacher to serve them …show more content…
Martinek, the Assistant Principal for grade pre-K to 2nd grade classes. Mr. Martinek was happy to speak to me about the school’s early childhood education program and its mission. As soon I sat down on his office he asked me question “Do you know the goals and mission of PS 55? He caught me by surprise, but he laughed and started to talk about the school’s mission. Although the school is listed at the NYC Department of Education webpage as PS 55, Mr. Martinek and other school professionals refer to the school as C. S. 55. Mr. Martinek stated that C.S. 55 mission is to educate all children in a multi-cultural environment which nurtures self-esteem and promotes the belief that all children are special. The school empower all children to reach high levels of achievement and attain literacy as early as possible through standards driven instruction. C.S.55 is a strong neighborhood school, treasured by its community, and led by an experienced, collaborative and innovative
