They established a democracy as one of their first acts of colonization, because it was one of the many reasons as of why they separated from England. During the beginning of their time spent in Plymouth, the Pilgrims spent a major amount of time trying to make this area that they were residing in as utopia like as possible. The Pilgrims, unlike the Puritans, weren’t as intelligent and needed the help of the Natives to survive. With the help from the Natives and their knowledge of agriculture and growing crops, the Pilgrims kept themselves alive. The Natives not only helped them but also bartered with them which established a relationship between the Pilgrims and the Natives. This relationship they had in the beginning was later severed that transcended to the persecution and almost eradication of the Natives. They did not a bad relationship with the Natives in the beginning, they only wished to be left alone. The Pilgrims had a high point with the Natives during the fall of 1621 when they had a feast, otherwise known as the first Thanksgiving as an offering because they helped them.
