Sextus purpose in writing this is to define the code by which all ethics are based. This code is broken down into three parts; first what is good, followed by what is bad, and finishing with all that is indifferent.
What is Pyrrhonism?
Pyrrhonism was a form of extreme skepticism that believed that judgment must be suspended about whether it is possible to know true reality. When one could withhold such judgement they could then find serenity and equanimity in there mind as to what truth and false is.
The three basic approaches to Epistemology
Academics deny that truth is discoverable.
Dogmatists believe that truth is discoverable.
Skeptics suspend judgement and continue to search for truth that may be discovered.

Truth is one constant round. Why, because something must be proved by something else, which then has to be proven by another. This type of thinking leads to the ideal that truth is infinitely unknowable. Thus, for the skeptic, there is no self-evident proof of anything.
Is there a God or gods?
The philosophy of ethical skepticism suspends judgment about how good and bad should be defined. This because there are so many perspectives on the subject and thus the debating of good and bad would never come full circle. Also skepticicsm causes one to suspend judgment about whether anything is intrinsically good or evil. The cause for this type of thinking is due to the fact that human moral criterion of such good and bad things can be affected by human emotion, such as doubt, fear etc.
The skeptic could be very closely mistaken for an atheist. This is due to the fact that they suspend judgment of the existence or non-existence of God or gods.
