Tensions were rising with America and the British as the colonies started to look at the unfair ways that the British treated them. The Quartering Act was an act that was passed by parliament in 1765, that stated that colonists would have to provide bedding, firing, cooking, utensils, salt, beer, and vinegar to the British soldiers. Not only that, they also had to pay the taxes for the items they had to buy for the soldiers. Parliament was looking for a cheap way out of the economic mess that they had made in the French Indian war, and decreed that British soldiers were allowed to stay in homes of colonists without their consent. In 1767, New York’s assembly decided that the colonists did not have to buy British troops vinegar and liquor.
